When we announced that we were closing the chalet business, Alison at Off Piste Performance, said “Brilliant, you can come and work for us in Norway”.
Last year we went up to Tromso and did a week of ski touring to get an idea of what the terrain was like. This year, Alison got us catering for two of her week long ski touring courses based on the island of Kvaloya, just to the west of Tromso. With 10 guests, two High Mountain Guides and a Ski Instructor to feed every day we had our work cut out. Having said that we still managed to get out touring 5 days a week.
At the end of the trip Alison asked if we would be interested in working for them again in 2026. We are now booked to be up there again for 5 weeks.
Kvaloya means “Whale Island” and is really accessible from Tromso. There is so much ski touring to be had covering every conceivable aspect. In the 2 weeks we were there we did something different every day and only just scratched the surface. Each evening we would quiz Alison and the guides where we ought to head the following day. In exchange we told them what to eat.
Seriously looking forward to next winter!
