From the Chalet in Chamonix it is the same distance to go to Le Tour as it is to go to Courmayeur. Admittedly you have to go through the Mont Blanc Tunnel which has a price but it’s pretty easy. By car, with and MBU ski pass you get a reduced tunnel ticket and by bus it’s about 15€ return.
We sometimes call it the magic tunnel as it can be blowing a fern wind in Chamonix and dumping powder in Courmayeur. This was one of those days.
There was a thick blanket of snow on the ground on the Italian side and it was raining on the French side. The pistes had 30cm of fresh on them and the trees just seem to have sucked all the powder in and kept it light. By 11am the sun came out in time for coffee and then the wind picked up and blew snow about to fill in the tracks we’d made first thing. Top that with a pizza and a glass of prosecco and I’d say it was a pretty good day out.
