We have been heading up the Aiguille du Midi and ski touring over to the Helbronner for coffee. The coffee is  great and inexpensive and we have been building up some fitness at the same time. The skiing down the Vallee Noir has also been in brilliant condition with chalky snow and no bumps. We found we had a day skiing to ourselves and so headed up the Aiguille du Midi for a recce of the Vallee Blanche. The ridge is still only partially equipped so there were very few people skiing off. The ridge from the top of the Aig du Midi is in fantastic condition. Once kitted up again at the bottom of the ridge the crowds disperse in various different directions. We headed over the flats toward Helbronner. Someone had very kindly put a track in (while we were faffing about in the lift line) skirting under the crevasses and off up to the Italian side. After a quick bite of lunch we enjoyed fresh tracks virtually all the way down the Vallee Noir to Salle a Manger. Read on…
