Grands Montets Transceiver Park

The forecast was for 85% sun so first plan was a run off the Aiguille du Midi. Fortunately we received a text from a friend in the queue to say that half the population of Chamonix were also in the queue.

Grands Montets was next and we drove past the queue at the Aig du Midi which was almost crossing the road by the Chemist.

Flat light at Grands Montets for the first couple of runs so we decided to practice with our avalanche transceivers in the in the transceiver park. Never used it before but it is brilliant. 3 levels of search options.

  • Easy – single body search
  • Intermediate – 2 bods to find
  • Expert – 4 of them

It appears that there are some 16 boxes out there so it randomly assigns which ones are to transmit and it gives you the time it takes you to find each one.

By the time we had done, super speedy, the sun had come out and visibility restored. Hyper nice off piste conditions all over the mountain and super slippy icy pistes. Forget the pistes and get off is our advice at the moment.

Neither the slopes or the terrace at Grands Montets were busy as I think everyone was still in the queue at the Aiguille du Midi.
