Recent snow has freshened up the pistes.
Headed up the valley to Le Tour to ski the Domaine de Balme. The carpark was empty when we got there at half nine and we walked straight on to the lift. The front chair was catching the wind and very cold but the pistes were in great condition. Grippy snow for carving and pretty good coverage. The back chair did not open until about half twelve so having ripped up the pistes we turned our attention to the off-piste.
You had to ski lightly and choose where to go but the off-piste on the front side was great too. Not deep deep powder but nice and soft easy skiing, and fresh tracks to be had. Once the back opened up we ventured round to find the piste pretty solid and unforgiving. The back chair was not as cold and gave good views of the off-piste which was wind scoured and icy and strangely, deserted! Decided against that and continued to fresh track the front side.
