NYE at Brevent/Flegere and New Years Day at Courmayeur
Glorious sunshine followed us around on both New Years Eve and New Years Day. On 31st we left the chalet at minus 12 degrees and went to the sunny side of Chamonix to scout the pistes of Brevent and Flegere and even found some lovely chalky off-piste terrain at Flegere with only occasional rocks. Looking back into the valley there was a massive temperature inversion filling the valley bottom with cloud at super low temperatures. There are actually a couple of paragliders above the cloud dead centre of the picture. That would be a chilly descent.
New years day we set an early alarm and set off through the tunnel to Courmayeur. Excellent pistes on mostly man made snow. Skied through to a late lunch with Pizza and Prossecco then home. After lunch the excellent pistes had turned into inclined ice rinks as the nice grippy surface had been scraped off. I dare say they will do a superb overnight repair job and put it all back but the best snow is to be had in the mornings.
