So far the weather Gods have been smiling on us in Chamonix. We have enjoyed loads of snowfall up high giving a solid base for the winter season 2023-2024.
This weekend has seen the return of sunny weather which has meant that we could get some photos without trashing the camera. The venue for all images has been Grands Montets where the pistes have been in lush condition with grippy soft corduroy. Perfect for sorting out those carving turns. The off-piste conditions have also been terrific. The snow depth has been enough to cover most of the rocks. There are always the big ones still visible which the kids love to throw themselves off. We have even managed to find odd little stashes of untracked powder to play with three days after that last snowfall.
Today there must have been 200 folk in front of us at the lift from the valley floor. We went up as the lifts opened and got to the top of the Bochard. There were about 200 hundred people putting skins on their skis to ski tour up to the Col de Rachasses. The pistes were empty and in perfect condition to get the legs going.
It also struck us that this may be the last season where you can see the old lift station for the top of Grands Montets. The mid station has already been levelled in preparation for reinstating the top lift.
