What an amazing start to the winter ski season. Grands Montets is already open and the other ski domains are to open this coming weekend. There is snow in the streets and about 2m of snow at 2000m. We have been out and about getting our legs going and also getting a feel for the snow conditions.
We didn’t have the best visibility for our first ski at Grands Montets on Saturday so just stayed on the lower chair rather than venturing up the Bochard. I have to say that the snow was superb both on and off piste. The home run was closed down to the valley floor for lack of snow and it was not groomed at all. Since then they have been making snow like crazy to add to the snowfall.
We also ski toured up Le Tour at the head of the valley in nice sunshine. The car park was almost full of folk doing the exact same thing. The snow was good but better at Grands Montets.
Yesterday we ventured out of the valley to Plaine Joux for a skin up. There is such a cool skinning track through the trees and the snow was perfect. It was another blue sky day and the views of Mont Blanc are so different from the Chamonix Valley.
More snow is on the forecast so it bodes well for Christmas and New Year.
