On our day off from serving food at the chalet we set off to meet some friends for a gentle ski tour around Les Contamines. The Half Term week meant that the lift line to get up the hill was substantial but once up the crowds seemed to disperse. We headed over the Col de Fenetre and down to below the Col de Chasseurs before donning the skins again to climb up to a lake on the other side.
The ski touring conditions were excellent and the sun shone throughout. This also softened the snow surface for the descents. There is still a lot of wind slab out there in the backcountry so beware. The descent via the Roman Road back to the car park was fast and icy in patches but not rocky.
All in all a grand day out and great catch up with friends.
