New lift for the Mer de Glace

I know it’s quite a long ski to go and test it out but it’s worth it. We headed up the Aiguille du Midi to ski the Vallee Blanche and then get the lift up to the Montenvers train. It was a beautiful day and the ridge walk descent from the Aig du Midi was in great condition.

The views were outstanding with clouds rolling over the mountains. As we reached the Salle a manger area of the glacier the light went a little flat. The route is all off piste and the snow generally very good.

The new lift is great and only about 60 steps to access it. The old lift was over 500 steps and one definitely broke a sweat on a hot day. The modern gondola system with loads of cabins on the cable will shift tons more people. At the moment the lift is only open to people ascending from the glacier or guided groups descending. There is no ice cave this season for tourists.
