Sliding around on piste and off

The stable weather over the last week has given great opportunities to explore the mountains both on piste and off piste.  The recent snowfall freshened up the pistes for brilliant conditions almost everywhere.  Off piste has been a similar story although strong winds in the high mountains has produced some wind slab on certain aspects and breakable crust in some areas up high.  It has also blown snow in filling in the troughs of mogul fields creating smooth grippy snow rather than bumps.

Ski touring wise, the weather has been fantastic to get out in the mountains although one is never quite sure what each turn will be like on the descents.  We did get out to Col du Cicle at Les Contamines and also up to Col d’Entreves from the Aig du Midi. Both of which had areas of breakable crust at higher altitudes and some fab skiing lower down.
