The sun has finally made an appearance and the mountains are covered in crisp white sheets of snow  In short, all the pistes are in amazing condition throughout Chamonix. To be honest with the depth of snow which has been put down over the last 2 weeks if they were not is good condition something would be seriously wrong.  We have also enjoyed some brilliant powder days off piste. As the sun came out and people could see most of it has been tracked so you have to work a little harder to get freshies, but they are still out there. Read on… →

Grands Montets Chamonix

On Saturday we skied Grands Montets and were in the lift line as it opened with a few hundred others. We did a few runs off the Bochard to get our legs going and the snow actually got better as the morning progressed. Sunday we thought we would beat the crowds and ski tour up from Le Tour where the lifts are closed. There were probably a hundred cars in the carpark and people all over the hill at Domaine de Balme. The sun shone but the temperature was still bitter with wind at altitude. Great to get the legs going and a very pleasant ski down. Read on… →

Spring skiing conditions with the freezing overnight temperatures rendering the pistes bullet proof and then the sunshine softening the snow by mid morning.  Likewise the off piste has stayed good but keep well clear early in the morning on south facing slopes unless you want to shake a filling loose. The snow has kept really well and recently we have seen fresh arriving which is great for both the piste conditions and the off piste too. We have also managed to make the most of the great snow conditions with trips through the Mont Blanc Tunnel to Courmayeur and skiing in Chamonix. Read on… →

Les Contamines also has amazing pistes and the touring is good too over the Col de Fenetre and the Col de Cicle. The Roman Road back to the Gorge is getting really icy and there are a few rocks so take crampons just in case. Read on… →

At last we have a significant dump of snow and the valley is opening up. This week we have cleared the drive daily, even multiple times in one day. The fresh snow saw the valley close down while the lift company made it all safe and today, the sun has come out and the valley has opened up again. Read on… →

A short hike

Wall to wall sunshine lead us to La Flegere where after a little exertion from the top of the index lift we got to play with some fresh tracks. Tuesday was a friend’s Birthday through in Pila, Italy so we popped through the tunnel, cruised perfect pistes, ate pizza and drank prosecco. Read on… →
