Domaine de Balme is at the head of the Chamonix valley beyond Argentiere. It is accessible from the village of Le Tour and also from Vallorcine. It is great to get your legs going on day 1 of a week; big wide open blues and reds plus loads of off-piste for the expert skiers though not easy to learn as it is not visible from a lift. Not great in poor visability as there is no treeline skiing to help with perspective. Easily accessed by bus to Le Tour village and by train to Vallorcine.

Our favourite way to get there is the train to Vallorcine, it’s a beautiful ride and you don’t play with traffic, there is very rarely a queue at Vallorcine and the lift takes you strainght into the tree skiing. Plus there is a fantastic restaurant at the train station at Vallorcine. Do check that the lift is working on the internet before committing to the train as it is occasionally closed due to avalanche risk or wind.
