How to book free group ski lessons in Chamonix this winter

From 7 January to 4 February and from 7 March to 1st April 2022.

An announcement made this week by the tourist office of Chamonix Valley offering free group ski lessons for guests staying in commercial accommodation in the Chamonix Valley for at least 3 nights. The offer aims to boost tourism in the valley following last season when all the lift systems were closed. The initiative is estimated to cost 800,000€.

The group lessons are offered by the partner ski schools of ESF up and down the valley, plus Evolution2, on a fist come first served basis subject to availability. Bookings can be made up until 3 days before the first lesson. The offer is valid for group lessons and courses from 2 to 6 days in duration. You must present a booking confirmation or invoice for accommodation when you book the lessons and a guest card issued by the accommodation on the first lesson.

The offer states that it is open for all levels of ability and “all disciplines”, however the Tourist Information website only details the following:

  • Ski touring ChamonixAlpine Downhill Skiing – this is a brilliant way to start a ski trip to Chamonix if you have never been before. Especially to get your legs going if you have had a year off. Input from a professional instructor and getting shown around the slopes. This includes ski school for kids from 3 years old and competition training.
  • Off Piste – want to learn how to cope off the groomed trails and explore some of the itinerary runs that Chamonix has to offer, or just crank up your freeriding skills? This could be just the thing for you. All safety kit included.
  • Cross Country – otherwise known as Nordic or Ski de Fond, either classic or skating. It may look easy but the techniques are not easy to master without professional input. It is also a great workout.
  • Ski Touring – Chamonix has a stack of possibilities for ski touring for different levels of ability. There will be some criteria to meet in terms of age and skiing level but talk to the ski schools to see which courses are suitable for you.

The offer appears to exclude snowboarding which is a shame. Also any lift tickets and equipment hire is not included. For more information and FAQs here is the link to the tourist office site. Free Ski Lessons FAQs
