The end of another winter season in Chamonix Mont Blanc

dome de gouter

It has been an exceptional winter season for snow but not for sunshine.  We have had more awesome powder days than we can remember but not always been able to see a lot.  Some days the camera has been safely … Read on…

Ski Touring Col du Passon down to Le Tour

Breezy skiing powder

We thought that the ski down from the top of Grands Montets was nice. That was nothing compared to ski from Col du Passon down to Le Tour. An awesome ski touring day with the luck of untracked powder for most of the descent. Read on…

Aiguille du Midi to Helbronner ski tour

Start of the Vallee Blanche

The ridge from the top of the Aig du Midi is in fantastic condition. Once kitted up again at the bottom of the ridge the crowds disperse in various different directions. We headed over the flats toward Helbronner. Someone had very kindly put a track in (while we were faffing about in the lift line) skirting under the crevasses and off up to the Italian side. After a quick bite of lunch we enjoyed fresh tracks virtually all the way down the Vallee Noir to Salle a Manger. Read on…

Half term round up for Chamonix skiing and snowboarding

Breezy in powder

February has been an awesome month in Chamonix with all manner of weather. We have had powder skiing in the trees at Les Houches with the Greenwood family. Blue skies and powder at Domaine de Balme. A chalet full of folk on an Introduction to Ski Touring week with Alison and Rob. And a ski tour for Sauze’s Birthday up Pointe de la Croix from Arpy in Italy. Read on…

Crochues Berard Ski Tour from La Flegere

Aiguilles Rouge

Every turn on the ascent seemed to have a skitourer spread eagle on their face trying to regain the track.  Clouds were swirling and threatening to envelope the Aiguille Rouges but they held off and provided some spectacular mountain scenes. Read on…

Freezing conditions return to Chamonix.

Al, Ken & Breezy

To be fair we have had very “mixed” weather recently, and now we are back to the freezer.  The pistes in the valley and in Courmayeur and Les Contamines are is amazing condition; perfectly groomed, soft snow for ripping up. Read on…

First days skiing of the season Chamonix

Grands Montets Chamonix

On Saturday we skied Grands Montets and were in the lift line as it opened with a few hundred others. We did a few runs off the Bochard to get our legs going and the snow actually got better as the morning progressed. Sunday we thought we would beat the crowds and ski tour up from Le Tour where the lifts are closed. There were probably a hundred cars in the carpark and people all over the hill at Domaine de Balme. The sun shone but the temperature was still bitter with wind at altitude. Great to get the legs going and a very pleasant ski down. Read on…

Ski touring and the Vallee Noir

Ice cave Vallee Blanche

Three of us set off from the Aiguille du Midi to ski tour over to Helbronner and have a coffee in the restaurant at the top of the Skyway. The descent was brilliant with all the recent tracks filled in with wind blown snow. Down the Vallee Noir to Salle a Manger is still in great condition. Read on…

Splitboarder telemarker and alpine ski touring

Group photo in front of the Dent du Geant

The potential to find some fresh snow high up in the mountains was a draw. Hilary had rented a splitboard from Zero G so we headed up the Aig du Midi and over to Helbronner.

Lovely chilled ski tour and found some completely untracked powder to play with. Read on…
