Col de Berard and into Buet

What an adventure!

Three of us set off for the Crochues-Berard traverse into Buet. The Foehn wind was blowing and so the Flegere up lift from the valley floor was not running. Hopped a bus from the chalet and got up Le Brevent to ski over to the liaison. Funnily enough La Flegere was deserted.

Wind blown snow made the skinning track over the Crochues a little tricky but the sun shone and we were in no hurry. The traverse round towards the Berard was icy but in good condition. Lunch at the top of the Col de Berard before heading down the Buet valley. Found some untracked soft snow to put some turns in before hitting the track out in the valley bottom. That is when things started to get interesting.

The snow cover was good all the way down however the lack of snow depth made it a botanical bush whacking trip with various stream crossings. All good fun and no incidents we arrived in Buet just before the train back into Chamonix for a beer at Elevation. A grand day out!
