Ski Tour up to Helbronner and ski down the Vallee Noir

A beautiful sunny day and a reservation for the Aiguille du Midi in hand. Strange how you can make an online reservation, print out the ticket but still have to wait 40 minutes to get on the lift. You have to take the printout to a desk (with a queue) and exchange it for plastic cards. The plastic card allows you to join another queue at the prescribed time and wait a further 20 minutes to get through the turnstile. Then you find yourself in a holding pen for another 10 minutes before getting on the lift. Simple really and so efficient!

The ridge from the Aiguille is in great condition as is the Vallee Blanche. One of the clients was with a group on the VB but we were heading up to Helbronner for the Vallee Noir. A 45 minute ski tour up and then fresh tracking down the glacier and follow the glacier skiers right down past Salle a Manger. A late lunch stop on a rock in the sun before skiing down to the glacier snout and hiking up to the buvette and skiing out to Chamonix.

What a great way to spend a day off from the chalet!
